Going Up The Mountain
November 21, 2010

When the Bible talks about a place we should pay attention to several things like, where that place is, what happens there, and finally, how to get there.

In Hebrews 12:22-24 it tells us of one of those places:

22 But rather, you have come to Mount Zion, even to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless multitudes of angels in festal gathering,

23 And to the church (assembly) of the Firstborn who are registered [as citizens] in heaven, and to the God Who is Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous (the redeemed in heaven) who have been made perfect,

24 And to Jesus, the Mediator (go-between, Agent) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which speaks [of mercy], a better and nobler and more gracious message than the blood of Abel [which cried out for vengeance]. AMP

This is a real place that actually exists right this second.  If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, then through Him you have full, free, and anytime access to this Mountain.

This is the Mountain of the Lord.  Notice it says that YOU HAVE COME TO MOUNT ZION... not will come to Mount Zion after you die.  This is a place in Heaven you can go to through faith.  Look at what happens there:

  • multitudes of angels having a party worshipping God
  • the church of the Firstborn who are registered as citizens in heaven
  • God the Judge - there's lots in that one statement but not time to cover it right now - but it's really good
  • the SPIRITS OF THE RIGHTEOUS who have been made perfect...

Hey wait a minute... aren't you righteous through faith in Jesus?  Since the Bible is true then your SPIRIT is in this heavenly city already!  Your body is here on the earth and you live in your body, but your spirit is in heaven at the same time!  How cool is that?

Jesus made this happen for us.  He gives us full access every second of everyday.  When we worship, we go up and into this Mountain.  We actually go into heavenly places and worship God through our spirits there - in heaven on Mount Zion in Heaven.

That's why the GLORY comes and the Presence of God is felt when we worship together. Your spirit is accessing this heavenly realm.  You are a child of God.  Stop thinking of yourself as other than who you are. Think like the Bible suggests you think - according to the truth.  The Word of God is true.

Here's how to make the most of what you have available to you in Christ.

  1. When you pray or worship, give Jesus your full attention.  Let your thoughts be filled with the power of His Name and who He is to you.
  2. In your mind, see yourself standing in heavenly places with Him.  He is in heaven physically, you are there spiritually in Him.  You are on earth physically and He is in you spiritually. Relax and allow God to use your imagination for His purposes.
  3. Pay attention to what you may see in your mind.  You will see something with your thoughts. Then you'll experience His Presence in your body.  What you see will be what the Father wants to share with you or to express to you.  It'll be encouraging, edifying and comforting.  He loves you very much and is always excited to see you present - and conscious of being in heavenly places.
  4. Be very grateful and humble.  Thanksgiving is our entrance into the gates of the city, and praise brings us further into the courts.  Trust me - when you start worshipping this way - praise will fill your heart and soul to overflowing because you'll experience a taste of heaven on earth.

Worship the Lord with your WHOLE HEART!  He is worthy of all praise!  He is greater than you could ever imagine and crazy in love with you!  He can't get you off His mind.  When you pray, think upon, worship, testify of, the Lord - it allows Him the opportunity to connect with you.  He loves face time with you.  That all.  Just you.

Be Blessed;
Greg
